Hart HPCS25 circular saw

Lists of best circular saw

Do you have a woodworking shop or are you a DIYer like me? It makes sense to spend money on tools that work well for construction and repairs. It’s not the best idea to staff your shop with specialists who are just good at one job.

A circular saw is a motorized hand tool that can often handle tasks that would often need a table saw or hacksaw. Two-by-fours, particleboard, and drywall will all be chopped up. It can cut metal, tile, or brick using a specific blade. And as you become more proficient with a circular saw, you’ll discover that the tool is capable of much more than just making straightforward basic cuts; plunge cuts and miter cuts will soon be achievable.

Well in this article, I’ll be listing the best corded and cordless circular saw you should be considered for your workshop or next project. Note that this is not a sponsored post, all circular saw products listed below are based on the best and top-performing ones in today’s industrial market.

So, let’s dive in!

Bosch CCS180B

Bosch CCS180B

The CCS180, which has a stylish gray and blue left-blade style, provides the majority of the capabilities that the DeWalt does. The CCS180 delivers a similar level of comfort as the DCS391 and weighs 6 1/2 pounds, about half a pound less than the DeWalt, thanks to its ergonomic rubber-coated grip and simple-to-reach safety button, which is situated on the side of its handle. With a quick-stopping blade brake that engages when you pull your finger off the trigger and a left-sided blade position, the Bosch delivers additional safety measures.

The Bosch CCS180 offers improved cutting area visibility and a safer direction of travel should the saw ever kick back on you by positioning the blade on the left side. However, if you are used to using a circular saw that is right-hand oriented, you could find the left-sided blade uncomfortable.

The Bosch cuts a highly precise line in drywall and particleboard during use. The Bosch batteries have a similar indicator to the DeWalt 20v battery, but to check the charge gauge, you must remove the battery from the tool.

DeWalt DCS5736

DeWalt DCS5736

DeWalt cordless circular saw with a 20-volt battery can now be powered by either the common 20-volt Max battery or the massive dual-20/60-volt Flex Volt power supply. The latter allows for an absurdly large number of cuts during a single charge or several cuts at its depth of 2-916 inches. We didn’t even bother counting the number of buzzes it made through the 2 x 4 during our test because we ran out of wood before the battery started to lose its charge.

Let’s just say that you may expect more cuts, up to a day’s worth of work, the more amp hours in the power pack you put into this machine. The DCS573B is a strong, accurate saw with a smooth cutting surface. Get this if you’re considering going cordless but want professional performance.

Skil 5280-01

Skil 5280-01

Anyone who has wrestled with extension cords and dubious wiring will appreciate this straightforward but useful safety measure. The SKIL features a full metal plate (steel), just like the other corded saws I discovered, plus a metal blade guard. The saw’s grip is reasonably comfortable, and the hand pressing the trigger can easily access the saw’s safety. The SKIL incorporates a laser guide to assist with your cut in addition to a blade lock to be used while replacing the blade.

The SKIL 5280’s plate is a little trickier to read than other saws I’ve used, which makes modifications challenging. Nevertheless, correcting for beveled cuts is simple. Additionally, you should be aware that the SKIL lacks an electric brake just like the other corded saws I’ve used. So, be careful, as after releasing the saw’s trigger, the blade will continue to spin for a while.

Hart HPCS25

Hart HPCS25 circular saw

We test circular saws for homeowners and professionals in the same manner. For this 20-volt Hart, that entailed sawing through the 1.5-inch thickness of Douglas fir construction lumber while also turning the board on edge to ensure that the blade was fully buried at its maximum depth in the lumber. Our conclusion: You won’t mistake this saw for one meant to build houses; if you push it too hard, its thermal cutoff will trip.

However, it has sufficient power to cut some lumber, even a 4 x 4. We appreciated the lock button, which is formally known as the spindle lock. Press it to secure the blade so you can swiftly switch off the screw that clamps it down. Its safety latch, which is simple to operate whether you are right- or left-handed, was another feature we enjoyed.

Ryobi P507 One+

Ryobi P507 One+

You can throw anything at the Ryobi ONE+ circular saw, and it will be able to cut through it. The handle’s seam, which hurts the palm, makes it uncomfortable to hold. The saw’s balance also seems a little off once the battery is connected, in my opinion. However, this circular saw cuts effectively and would be a wonderful addition to your arsenal if this is a battery-powered platform that you already possess other tools. (The cost of a battery and charger is around $80.)

Makita GSR01M1

Makita GSR01M1

The GSR01M1 combines excellent industrial design, powerful cutting, and minimal weight. From the ergonomic trigger switch to the design and placement of each lever to the push lever on the spindle lock, everything about this saw is comfortable and simple to use. These little things add up to a better workday, which is important regardless of the weather, but it is especially important when it is hot, muggy, or chilly.

Fighting with your tools is the last thing you should do. Last but not least, Makita uses a superb blade on this saw. The GSR01M1 does not require you to replace the blade, saving you money. Get started by taking the saw out of the box, charging the battery, and mounting the blade.

Black & Decker BDCCS20B

Black & Decker BDCCS20B

The Black & Decker BDCCS20 has the shortest blade size of all the saws I discovered, at 5-1/2 inches. Its reasonable portability is a benefit. Only the thinnest materials can be cut with the Black + Decker BDCCS20. It can start cutting particle board, but after approximately 2 inches it freezes and won’t go any farther. In addition, compared to comparable saws, the BDCCS20’s drywall cuts were jagged and far more chewed up. I’m not entirely clear who would benefit most from this saw, except for someone whose sole hobbies involve cutting trim or boards that are no thicker than an inch. The saw does, however, come with a charger and a battery.

Craftsman CMES500

Craftsman CMES500

There is a genuine Craftsman Renaissance. Craftsman tools have gotten better ever since Stanley Black & Decker, the corporation that also owns DeWalt, acquired the business. The name has always appealed to us, so we were delighted to see that this saw was built on a strong legacy of high-quality power equipment. The Skil above is about a pound heavier than this one.

Even though it may not seem like much, given that you are likely also hauling lumber and hammering nails, it can help a workday go a little more smoothly. Although the Craftsman’s motor has a slightly lower amperage than the Skil’s, the difference in cutting power between the two tools is minimal.

Due to a tiny inaccuracy whether using a square for crosscuts or a long straight edge for rips, the CMES500’s shoe’s edge isn’t quite parallel to the blade, giving that Skil a slight advantage in our rankings. Fortunately, you can maintain the saw cutting true if you exercise a little extra caution.

Circular Saw FAQs

Which brand of a circular saw is best?

The followings are the common circular saw brand:

  • Best Overall: Bosch GKS18v-25GCB14.
  • Most Powerful Cordless: DeWalt DCS5736.
  • Most Powerful Corded: Skilsaw SPT67WM-22.
  • Best Value Corded: Skil 5280-01.
  • Best Value Cordless: Hart HPCS25.
  • Best Budget Saw: Craftsman CMES500.
  • Best Rear-Handle: Makita GSR01M1.
  • Best Rear-Handle Cutting Power: DeWalt DCS577X1.

What is the best size for a circular saw?

7 1/4 inches is the most typical and practical size for DIYers. This size of saw offers the broadest selection of blade options for cutting materials other than wood and can cut through material that is more than three inches thick.

What are the two types of circular saws?

Worm drive and sidewinder are the two basic styles of circular saws. The engine of a worm-drive saw offers more torque, making it simpler to cut thick, challenging materials like hardwoods. The torque of a sidewinder or conventional circular saw is often lower, but the blades spin faster and the initial cost is lower.

What to look for when buying a circular saw?

Accuracy – Accurate cutline indicators, high blade visibility, smooth guard retraction, and a flat shoe placed parallel to the blade are all characteristics of circular saws that make them easier to use. The ideal cutline indicators perfectly align with the kerf created by the saw. A thin-kerf saw blade should fit inside the notch you intend to create.

What should you not do with a circular saw?

The followings are things you should not do with a circular saw:

  • Do not hold or force the retracting lower guard in the open position.
  • Do not place your hand under the shoe or guard of the saw.
  • Do not over-tighten the blade-locking nut.
  • Do not twist the saw to change, cut or check alignment.

What is the most useful saw to own?

The most adaptable instrument in the shop, in my opinion, is the table saw, which you should get as your first large item. The Miter Saw comes after that. The one thing the miter saw does is it does exceptionally well. More effectively and quickly than almost any other equipment, the miter saw can cross-cut wood.

What is the first saw I should buy?

Circular saws are more difficult and dangerous to use than miter saws. Although they can only cut boards up to 12 inches wide, this is frequently sufficient for starter projects. You won’t need a circular saw until you’re working on more complex tasks because home improvement stores can cut larger pieces for you.

Why are the Japanese seen better?

Japanese saws use less wood, produce less sawdust, and require less effort because their tiny blades create thin kerfs. Longer, more accurate cuts can be made with less effort and weariness. For a beginner, cutting wood in the Japanese manner is significantly simpler.

What is the most versatile saw for home use?

In essence, a miter saw has the versatility to cut straight lines or at an angle, which has the potential to drastically change how you approach your work.

Is it better to have more or fewer teeth on a circular saw?

In general, a smoother, finer cut will be produced by a blade with more teeth, and a rougher cut would be produced by a blade with fewer teeth. Faster cutting and a lesser cost are advantages of having fewer teeth. A general-purpose blade with 24 teeth is adequate for the majority of building tasks.
