Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, Pakistan, South Korea, Taiwan, Tunisia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Top-ranked applicants take part in a 12-week research internship from May to October every year, working under the guidance of faculty members from Canadian universities in a range of academic subjects, including science, engineering, mathematics, the humanities, and social sciences.

GRI Cycle & Important Dates

April to June 2023Faculty application: Faculty submit research projects to Mitacs. Project proposals are due June 8, 2023, by 1 p.m. PT for 2024 Globalink Research Internships.
July to August 2023Faculty application vetting: Projects are reviewed by Mitacs and decisions are communicated to professors. All successful projects are made available to student applicants in an online database.
August to September 2023Student application: International students submit applications and select research projects from the online database.
October 2023Student application vetting: Mitacs conducts an eligibility review of student applications.
November 2023 to January 2024Matching: Mitacs provides professors with a shortlist of student candidates for their projects. Professors are then asked to review student applications, conduct interviews, and then rank the applicants in order of suitability. Mitacs collects student and professor rankings and then finalizes offers to students. The final results will be announced in February.
February to April 2024Pre-internship preparation: Successful students start working with their Canadian host professors to arrange pre-internship details while Mitacs oversees logistics and coordinates with university administrative offices.
May to October 2024Internship: Globalink research interns arrive in Canada and work with supervising professors for 12 weeks on their research projects.

Mitacs ensures a rigorous selection process to curate a cohort of interns poised to make meaningful contributions to the global research community.
