Admiral William H. McRaven spoke to the University of Texas at Austin’s graduating class on their commencement day on May 17, 2014. Inspired by the university’s motto, “What starts here changes the world,” he discussed the ten principles he learnt while undergoing Navy Seal training that enabled him to overcome obstacles in his training and lengthy Naval career, as well as in his personal life. He also described how anyone can use these fundamental lessons to improve both themselves and the world.
With more than 10 million views, Admiral McRaven’s original speech went viral. Building upon the fundamental principles outlined in his address, McRaven now shares stories from his own life as well as those of others he met while serving in the military who overcame adversity and made difficult choices with bravery, honour, compassion, and drive.
